Distinguished delegates, chairs, and other MUN enthusiasts,

It is with great honour and pride that on behalf of the entire Board of Directors, I welcome you to the fourth edition of the annual International School Utrecht Model United Nations conference. I am João Amoroso, and it is a great honour to serve as this year’s Secretary General. ISUMUN is a 2-day conference, held on Saturday the 6th and Sunday the 7th of February 2027 at the International School Utrecht.

 

 The theme for this year’s ISUMUN conference is:

Global Peace and Security: Strengthening Sovereignty and Resolving Conflicts Through International Cooperation in an Interconnected World

 

In a world where we have experienced the highest number of armed conflicts since 1945, this theme continues to prove its importance. Conflicts today demonstrate that global peace and security cannot be achieved by individual states acting alone, but rather through international cooperation and diplomacy. While sovereignty allows states to govern themselves and protect their territory, the globalized and interconnected nature of our world means that conflicts are more frequent and have consequences beyond the borders of the parties involved. This emphasizes the importance of international cooperation in resolving conflicts, supporting peaceful negotiations, and creating lasting solutions.

We hope this theme sparks engaging, constructive debates among delegates and helps them deepen their understanding of diplomacy and international cooperation in resolving conflicts. The BOD and I are just as excited as our delegates to welcome you and have you as our esteemed guests. We encourage everyone, from beginners to experienced delegates, to discuss global issues, improve their debating skills, meet new people, and, most importantly, try their best.
